In February this year I went along to the Institute of Imagination’s inaugural ‘Lab live’ event ‘Recode’. You can read all about it here, but in short my six year old son, Leo and I had a great day. We coded robots to move and talk, did science experiments, fixed electric toys, created drawing bots, made a super-powered rocket glove and much more. After a full-on four hours Leo came out with a huge smile on his face and wanted to know when we could go back there again.
The answer to that is – very soon. Tickets are now on sale for ‘Lab live: Reality’ in partnership with Rolls-Royce.
Being a complete novice myself in the VR/AR world this event appeals to me even more than it does to Leo at the moment. There’s the chance to try out the latest virtual and augmented reality technology, meet a supersonic car, explore the aerodynamics of materials and learn how to design and print 3D objects.
The range of activities planned for the event sound truly awe-inspiring. For a start there’s Google’s Expeditions programme – where kids can explore the surface of Mars, visit the International Space Station or submerge themselves in the beautiful underworld of coral reefs. Then there’s a chance to experiment with drones and explore aerodynamics with Drone Ops, or test the iOi’s specially created wind tunnel with your own flying creations. You can also dive into the world of augmented and virtual reality and interact with holograms. And if that wasn’t enough, you can also check out a model of one of the fastest cars on the planet – the Bloodhound SSC (Super Sonic Car).
My tickets are booked!!
Lab live: Reality takes place from 10am – 5pm on Monday 1st May 2017 (that’s the Bank Holiday).
It’s a one-off event, and at £8 per ticket, and judging by that list of activities I imagine tickets will go pretty fast, so get booking. If you use the promotional code DAD_IMAGINATION_0105 you can even get a bit of money off!
The event is suitable for kids from six to fourteen years old. Find out more information on the iOi’s website.
