At the beginning of June we took a family holiday to Majorca. Our first trip abroad, with both kids, and no grandparents for back-up. It took us ages to decide on where to go and what type of holiday we wanted, but in the end we took the easy road and opted for a package holiday. Four years ago this would’ve been my worst nightmare, but now it kind of makes sense. Everything was taken care of – travel, accommodation, food, entertainment. All we had to think about was relaxing and spending quality time with the kids.
It was going to be our daughters fourth birthday the day after we arrived home so we thought it would be nice to get her something to take away with us. The dolls house wasn’t going to fit in the suitcase, neither were the fairy wings or the tea set for that matter so we decided to give her our old Canon Ixus camera. We thought she could have a lot of fun with this on holiday and it would make her feel like a big girl having her very own grown-up camera.
The camera is about five or six years old. I remember buying it just before we went on our last proper holiday – to Costa Rica. It was the last one left in stock at our local camera shop and it wasn’t until they were putting it in the bag that I realised it was bright pink! Not exactly my first choice of colour for a camera, but couldn’t be more perfect for Carys!
Last week I had a look at what pictures she had taken. I was expecting to see a lot of pictures of the floor or close-ups of her fingers as they obstruct the lens, but I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it’s the super easy-to-use camera or that my daughter has an eye for a picture, whatever, there were some great images that I wanted to share.
I think it’s quite clear from these images that she got a lot of pleasure from shoving the camera in her little brothers face, and he wasn’t too impressed, especially given that his birthday isn’t until September and he wants everything and anything that his sister has!!
